The term “X visa” has become quite popular in recent years. Many people have never actually seen one, but they know what it is because of all the media coverage and talk surrounding them. Some say this attention is too much, while others think it is totally appropriate.
There are two main types of visas that require an applicant to live in Canada for at least six months after being issued. These are either business or tourism-related travel. If you receive such a visa, there are some additional rules about your departure from Canada as well as returns.
This article will go into more detail about these special visas and how they work.
Even if you have no international travel plans, having enough money to re-enter your home country is important. Many times, this includes staying at a hotel or house while you look for work.
If you run out of funds before you leave, there are often ways to earn more money quickly. You could start offering freelance services such as taking pictures or making phone calls.
If you are an international student, there is one major thing you must know about studying in Australia. You do NOT NEED A VISA TO TRAVEL IN THE COUNTRY!
As of October 1st 2016, all non-Australian citizens will require a visa if they want to visit or work in Australia. This includes students coming for study as well as professionals (such as doctors) seeking employment here.
What this means for students
It can be confusing knowing what visas you need and when so it is important to make sure you stay up to date with the rules.
Some courses have different levels of entry requirements depending on whether you are a casual student or a professional academic. Find out who is looking after your tuition fees and how much money they will pay you per week and time frames within which they expect you to be available, so that you don’t need to check visa regulations while you’re paying for school expenses!
For more information about visas for Australian students, speak to someone at Student Services. They will be able to tell you everything you need to know.
Remember, even if you have the correct visa, you may still be liable to immigration laws if you are working while in the country. Make sure you understand your obligations and monitor yourself online regularly.
There is one major requirement for Canadians to live and work in another country as a resident alien or non-resident visa holder. This requires a bit of extra paperwork, but you can be completely hassle free if you stay within the guidelines.
The important thing to remember is that even though your residency status doesn’t require visas, you still need to have a valid VISA to enter the destination country!
This isn’t always the case, however. Some countries don’t require visas for people with residence rights (also called PR cards) while others do. It totally depends on where you are living and what kind of passport you have.
Most European countries and several other popular tourist destinations around the world don’t require visas, so it is very easy to get away with not having one. More than half of all Canadian cities don’t either, which means most Canadians never really think about it.
Being able to stay in Australia as a skilled worker is great, but there are only so many jobs available for workers with limited visas. If you’re looking to stay in this country longer than six months, then applying for an extension or permanent residency may be your best option.
If you’ve already been granted a subclass 417 (skilled resident) visa and you’re seeking additional time here, you can apply for a non-resident health insurance card. This will give you access to subsidised healthcare at public hospitals and clinics, similar to what we have here in Canada.
However, staying healthy is one of the most important things for successful relocation. Finding adequate general practice medical coverage outside of hospital level care can sometimes prove difficult if you don’t plan ahead.
A good way to deal with this is to compare private health cover providers and find one that fits your budget and needs. A few days’ difference between having treatment done right away and being without health services can make a big difference!
We recommend doing your research online using sites like Best Health Plans, GetHealthyCover and MoneySavingExpert. They all offer comparisons and reviews for various plans across different levels and types.
The first type is what’s called an F-1 student visa. This allows for international students to study at a U.S. college or university.
The second type is what’s called an O-1 investor visa. An individual can invest in, buy a business loan, or make an investment in America if they have enough money to back up their words.
The third type is what’s called a B-2 visitor visa. A person coming onto American soil as a tourist with no agenda beyond exploring our country is considered a “visitor.”
Fourth, there’s what’s called an H-1B nonimmigrant worker visa. Companies must be able to prove that they couldn’t find qualified workers within the United States to fulfill a position. If they could, then they must look outside of America for employees.
Fifth, there’s what’s called an L-1 intra-company transfer employment visa. Similar to the H-1B, employers need to be able to prove that they had tried everything else before looking elsewhere.
Sixth, there’s what’s called an M-Visa. These are given to individuals traveling abroad while actively working on a project here in the US.
A ‘X’ visa is only given to people with no other options for residency in Australia. This includes international students, skilled migrants or professionals who want to live here.
If you are already living in Australia as an Australian citizen or resident, you will not be able to apply for a non-resident visa unless your stay in Australia has become indefinite (more than 6 months) or you plan to leave permanently.
These situations include working long term, marrying an Australian person, having dependent children, or if you have valuable assets in this country.
You must also make sure you will return to Australia after your visit, either at a later date or for a longer period of time.
It is important to note that even though you may meet the criteria for a non-resident visa, it does not guarantee entry into Australia.
The decision to grant you a visa is up to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and they do not give their decisions around 30 days normally.
If your life has hit rock bottom, then it’s time to think about seeking help. Most countries have a system of visas that allow them to give permission to foreigners to live in their country for a set period of time. These are known as residence permits or “visas for stay”.
A work visa is one such type of permit. A lot of Western nations offer this kind of visa to people who want to live and work there. Many European countries even have an extended-stay working holiday visa option where you can spend up to two years living and working in the country.
There may be times when a person does not qualify for a normal work visa but still needs to live and/or travel in the country. This could be because they already have the necessary visa but need more time to settle down or travel somewhere else. It also sometimes happens due to unexpected events like a family member being diagnosed with cancer and requiring expensive treatment.
Whatever the reason, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to keep staying in a country longer than planned then a prolonged residency visa might be right for you. At least, that’s what many countries call these types of visas.
Being able to prove you are legally in Australia can help you feel more confident when returning home or moving abroad. It also helps if you want to stay in Australia for longer, as it proves your intention is to return.
If you’re planning to travel outside of Australia with your VISA, you should be aware that there are some restrictions depending on what type of VISAs you hold.
A Working Visum (X) means you cannot work unless you have written permission to do so! So even though you don’t technically need your X visa to live here, you still need to know whether you’re permitted to work before heading back home or not.
There are exceptions to this rule however- you mustn’t work more than 40 hours per week and you can only earn up to $7000 per year! That’s why it’s important to check out our tips on how to remain jobless in Australia.
