How to Get your Book Noticed on Amazon — A Guide

By Tiara Ogabang

This article will give you ten tips for getting your book noticed on Amazon. The tips are broken down into various categories and are very simple to follow.

Your blog is an invaluable resource for authors. They should follow the practices below to maximize their opportunities to get their book onto Amazon.

Let’s begin and give some practical tips for getting people to see your book!

1. Get people to review your book

The most important thing that you can do is get people to review your book.

In my opinion, it’s the best marketing tool. As soon as someone has read your book, you can offer a free copy of it to them.

That gives you an opportunity to ask them to review your book.

Tips to get reviews for your book

Using public relations has historically been the best way to get your book out to the media.

Now thankfully there are amazing online tools like Promo Panda, which can pitch your book out to a wide range of media outlets for reviewing and taking a look at your book.

All the media coverage we secure is in blogs with real following (10,000-100,000 views per month) as well as a niche-specific outlet, so you can get real engagement out of your media placements.

2. Blog about your book

The most important thing when you are just starting out is to publish a book. This is the perfect place to start writing a blog.

Blogging is extremely easy. Just a few lines of text will post on your website and, in most cases, people will be drawn to your book by the topic of your blog.

Do not neglect your blog.

Your blog is the digital equivalent of your book and should be treated as such.

3. Check reviews and ratings

Your Amazon reviews and ratings should be checked before you publish. This will give you some indication as to how well your book will do.

As well as this, you should go back and look at what the book had said about itself on Amazon before it was released. Reviewers can sometimes leave bad reviews when it suits them, but in many cases, it’s worth the time it takes to dig deeper and see what the book was actually about.

It’s also useful to check how many reviews your book has and how long they are.

4. Schedule your eBook launch

Writing a book is a huge amount of work. When you finish the book, be sure to schedule a launch day so that you have time to promote the book after it’s published.

I chose the 17th of December as my book’s launch day because it gives me a free book to give away to those who purchase the book. The book will also be out on other booksellers that week, which gives me an opportunity to promote the book in places other than Amazon.

I’m currently selling my book on both Smashwords and Kindle and have noticed some very good sales on those two sites.

5. Link to your book on social media

You should link to your book on your social media profiles.

If you are selling the book as an eBook, link to the free eBook link in your author bio. If you are selling the book in print, give the eBook link as a social share button.

It’s best to include the free book price for people who are interested in reading the book.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram also make it easy for people to share your posts.

6. Set up an Author Page

You should also create an Author Page on Facebook. I created an Author Page when I began promoting my book. It’s all I can do to look at Facebook all day, and my sales on there are fantastic, so I highly recommend setting up an author page.

If you set up an author page on Amazon, give your author page a different cover and a unique link.

7. Promote your book

If you are in the UK, you have a book cover discount. If you are in the US, there is the Amazon Video, TV and Magazine advertising discount.

As well as this, you should take advantage of third party sites that can help promote your book. In my opinion, the best and most free is Amazon Author Central, which is a virtual bookstore in itself.

Here is a guide to using Amazon Author Central.

8. Use free book promotion

Cell Phone

Although these days you can go to Twitter and send a tweet advertising your book, Twitter is rather limited. If you are looking for a more robust promotion tool, use Facebook.

It’s very easy to reach Facebook’s 2 billion users with one tweet.

Also, if you go to a site like Press Release Rush, you can find hundreds of publications that will publish your press release. The really good thing is that this doesn’t cost a penny.

9. Advertising

If you are planning to do a lot of book marketing, consider advertising. For instance, you could buy Google Adwords to target booksellers.

While this is an expensive way of advertising, it’s the only way you’re going to get noticed. Also, it’s important that you target the right people, otherwise you’ll be wasting money.

10. Stay organized

If you are working on a book, it’s important that you stay organized. I use Trello to keep track of all my projects.

You should also make sure that you use an email marketing software.

It’s important that you use email marketing software, or you could end up wasting a lot of time sending emails to the wrong people. You can also setup a system to make sure that you only send emails to people who have confirmed their interest.
