Promotions are important to staying in management.
Usually, once you reach a certain level, you are presented with two options; get promoted to a position that is more specific or take the risk and learn how to do the job yourself.
Often, during periods of expansion, the organizations continue to promote people, even to the point of creating positions for people who have not progressed in the company.
One of the best ways to get promoted into a new management position is to learn how to take over the business and to succeed as a leader for someone else in the company.

If you become good at this, you will be asked to sit in on all the important meetings that you are invited to.
Get to know the company and what is important to the people in the organization. You will want to find out their biggest needs and how you can help them.
Start asking questions. At this point, if you are confident about what you are doing, people will feel more comfortable asking you questions.
You can tell what people need. A lot of people just don’t know what they need. Try to understand what they are trying to achieve. Don’t just go for the answer that sounds good.
You need to know what is important to them and what you can do for them. A lot of people will stop asking you for help when they realize you won’t help them do what they want.
Develop a list of how you can help them. It could be as small as giving them a quick phone call, or it could be as big as introducing them to someone who can help them achieve what they want to achieve. These are all important steps.
The more you make clear to your firm’s key employees that you value their work, the more motivated they will be to perform and (perhaps more importantly) the more excited they’ll be when it comes time for the board to decide who takes over the CEO position.
You’ll want to get all the support you can get and make their decision that much easier.
You need to get to know as many people in the company as possible and you should try to connect with them as much as possible. Start by helping with the administrative work that needs to be done. Become their best friend and help them to do things.
You can’t be successful if you are not prepared. Go to all the meetings and get involved in all the important decisions.
Help everyone around you to be successful. Give them the opportunity to become good leaders themselves. This is important if you want to get a promotion. You need to be able to take over the company and have a team of good leaders around you to help you do the job.
Take responsibility for their success and help them solve problems. You should always be thinking about how you can help someone who is facing a problem.
This is one of the quickest ways to show those around you that you are CEO material.
Accept the role of leadership and help people who are taking on leadership roles. This is an important way to help them and, in return, you will have more time to get yourself promoted.
Try not to restrict people. You want them to go off and learn as much as they can.
Be a leader by encouraging the people you are leading to learn more. Doing this is important because it helps them to take control and become more confident.
