As we all know, TV show hosts are not just given an open stage to talk about whatever they want. They have to stick to a script, they have to ask for permission to say certain things, and there are always people in their audience that don’t like what they have to say.
In fact, some fans can get so upset that they physically threaten or attack them. This is why most famous people have bodyguards around them at every event.
But how did this popular host get here? What made him decide he was enough of an important person to deserve his own security team? He spent years developing his image as a well-known personality before getting attention beyond the screen.
And although he may feel protected now, it wasn’t easy – he had to work hard to reach the level where he is today. In this article, you will find out more about Nick Cannon’s rise to fame and how he got into hosting!

As we know, as of this writing, Nick is very popular and well-known for his work outside of TV. He has made several appearances in feature films including Race with the Devil, The Real Boy’s Club, Baby Daddy, and most recently The Breakup Guru.
He also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos before it got cancelled, he starred in Battle of the Bands alongside Ariana Grande and Misfit Toys, and he currently hosts Pet Nation on Nickelodeon.
He was once married to Mariah Carey but they divorced in 2016 after five years together. They have two sons.
Nick is famously private so very little information about him is known publicly.
As mentioned earlier, he was once featured in the MTV reality series The Breakout Yearling (or “Surreal Life” for those who know it). He played an accountant who had to live with five other people while trying to figure out what they all did for a living.
He needed no additional explanations as to why his stint on the show was so memorable. His fellow housemates constantly referred to him as Mr. Hollywood due to his constant chatter about his career plans.
He described himself as being in the entertainment business since childhood when he would dress up like Sylvester Stallone for Halloween. This clearly set a precedent for future endeavors!
His success quickly followed after leaving the show. He hosted several more seasons of The Rap Game before launching his own game show, Battle For Bricktown, which ran for three years.
Since then, he has made appearances on many TV shows, headlined various festivals, and launched two successful podcasts. All this while maintaining his busy filming schedule and philanthropic work.
Nick is also well-known for starting the popular trend of celebrity throwdowns. Some of his most notable collaborations include Drake vs. Jay Z at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, Miley Cyrus vs. Taylor Swift during the 2014 Video Of The Year Award Presentation, and Justin Timberlake vs. Jimmy Fallon at the 2016 Golden Globes.
As we mentioned earlier, he was a contestant on season 6 of The Bachelorette. This didn’t make him famous, but it did help launch his career as a celebrity impersonator. He has done several of Sean “Dre” Jackson’s songs including My Favorite Song and Jump off the Roof.
He also does Rihanna really well and she seems to like it! His best known work is probably doing Beyonce’s Partition in its entirety. Many people have made fun of this because it sounds very close to her song If I Were A Boy which isn’t too great for his reputation.
But he still gets paid pretty good for it so that's alright.
As mentioned earlier, he is well-known for his work as a comedian. But aside from his career in entertainment, he is also famous for being one of the contestants on the long running reality competition series The Trumpian Challenge!
He was on the show for three seasons where he competed against other celebrities to run a business with Donald Trump. He is best known for creating a catch phrase for himself during season two which has since gone viral.
His signature line is “Yes, you can!” followed by what seems like an impossible task that no one else believes will actually possible. For example, he would say something like, “You can be in a room full of people and still feel alone,” or, “You can go into a crowded restaurant and get some space.”
This style of humor got him very popular and helped shape his career as a celebrity impersonator and talk show host. Many have referred to this talent as doing comedy with emphasis on action.
He currently hosts several late night talk shows including Match Game, Funniest Person On Twitter, Winner Take All Games, and more recently, Talk Show The New Nightmare. His hosting skills are second to none and he always delivers great content!
What made him famous, however, is not just his ability to make people laugh but his outspoken nature. People often refer to him as having a knack for controversy. This makes for good television and large audience exposure.
As we mentioned earlier, he made his way up through television as an actor. He is best known for playing Jamal Lyon on The New Edition Story and Johnny Smith in Drake’s music video for “Started From The Bottom.”
He also starred in several TV shows such as Mr. America, Life Unexpected, and Space Dandy. His acting career fizzled out around 2012 though, when he decided to make the transition into producing.
Cannon has since produced several projects including movies like The Worst of Best-Seller Lists and All About Us. He was also one of the executive producers for the Nickelodeon show iCarly!
He is well known for being very hands-on with his projects and constantly looking at new ways to improve them. This quality helped him land his next job which was developing web series for MTV.
His first project after that was Pitch Perfect 2 where he served as both writer and director. While it didn’t do too well at the box office, it received mostly positive reviews from movie critics.
He later branched off into hosting by replacing Arianna Huffington on The Greg Behrendt Show along with comedian Patton Oswalt. Since then, he has become one of the highest paid celebrity hosts in the business.
As we know, TV is becoming less of a source of entertainment as people opt to instead use their smartphone or computer screen for media. Therefore, Hollywood has been moving some of the bigger blockbuster films into the digital space. More and more studios are producing movies that they will release exclusively online so that you cannot physically watch it unless you have an account at a streaming service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Nick Cannon made his name in television before he became famous as a comedian, actor, rapper and talk show host. He now produces several successful movies under his banner Powerhouse Pictures.
He first got involved with film production while hosting The MTV Movie Awards in 2009. Since then, he has produced many hit movies including Trainwreck, Central Intelligence, Grown Ups 2 and The Haunted Mansion. These are not small budget films!
His latest project is about an alien invasion which sounds like something right out of a sci-fi novel. It is called Alien Day and it comes from him and his company Powerhouse Productions.
As we know, The Power Team is made up of very successful YouTubers who make their living off of creating content for YouTube! That includes Nick as he started his own in-house studio to create content for all of his brands. His new company is called Higher Ground Productions, and it just so happens to be located at the Airbnb where he hosts his stay every few months.
He founded this business back in 2015 with his friend Ryan Higbee. Since then they have produced several projects such as MTV’s Teen Beach Movie, VH1’s Hip Hop Weekly, and most recently, an episode of Comedy Central’s South Parks season 13.
His success comes not only from producing TV shows and movies, but also starring in them! He has starred in several films including Race ya Motherfuckers!, Wild Baby Boom, and Mr. Mom. On television he has appeared in many sitcoms like America’s Got Talent, The Jamie Foxx Show, and more recently, Running Mates.
As we mentioned before, he is famous for his talk show appearances as well as his music career. But it’s not just that he makes an appearance on TV or records an album, it’s what he says during those appearances and how popular his songs are that make him famous.
He has done some pretty shocking things in the past (like calling Louis Farrah Jr a “white trash cracker,” which got him fired from his position at BET) but his most recent scandal didn’t help his image much.
In May of this year, reports surfaced about Nick allegedly threatening to kill journalist Tony Alvarez over a tweet criticizing his wife. He was eventually charged with two felony counts of making criminal threats and one misdemeanor count of harassment.
His lawyer told reporters at the time that the tweets were only intended to be jokes and that they had been taken out of context. A lot of people disagreed though and many felt that his comments crossed the line. Even after spending several days away from his family, he chose to retain his job despite the allegations.
He still receives significant amounts of money for his work even if he lost his reputation along the way.
