The Arctic Monkeys are one of Britain’s most successful musical duos, with their infectious blend of melodic rock tunes and humorous lyrics having earned them many accolades over the past decade.
As musicians in our own right, we have enjoyed success as solo artists too!
The music that they create is undeniable – it has catchy hooks and rhythms that stick around for repeated listening. They also manage to include clever wordplay and references within their songs that connect with other people.
Their debut album ‘Tranquilize My Soul’ was released back in 2006 and since then they have gone on to win several awards, including an Ivor Novello Award (for Best British Album) and two MOBO Awards (Music Of Black Origin).
They are also notable for being one of the first bands to get popular outside of their home country when their song ‘Iceman’ reached number one across Europe. This gave them the opportunity to perform at large festivals like Reading or France’s prestigious Victoires de la Musique where they won the award for best international artist.

The Arctic Monkeys are one of Britain’s most successful music bands. With them, success has come not only through their musical talent but also through being constantly active as artists.
They have continually put out new material while touring consistently across the globe. As they enter their sixth decade, it is time to look at how famous they have become!
The band formed back in 2006 when Alex Turner was just 21 years old. He had recently left university where he studied English literature and creative writing before dropping out.
He started playing guitar seriously two years earlier so he was already producing his own songs before forming a group with some other musicians. In 2007, he got rid of the stage name that people knew him by and now goes by Alex Turner alone.
Since then, he has been nominated for several Brit Awards and won Best British Male Solo Artist twice at the Music Oyez awards. He has also received various industry accolades such as an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution To Music in 2016 and an MBE in 2018 for services to music.
The Arctic Monkeys have been around for quite some time now- they formed in 2006 as an indie band in Sheffield, England. Since then, they have gone on to become one of Britain’s most well known bands!
They first achieved major success with the song “I Hire Disco Dancers”, which was featured on the film soundtrack of the same name. This led them to be signed to Domino Records, who also put out their first studio album.
Since then, the band has continued to achieve significant success and worldwide recognition. Some of their biggest songs include “Brianstorm”, “Why Don’t You Do It?”, “Teddy Bear”, and my personal favourite, “Ruffneck Sweater”.
The band members go by their respective stage names, but only one member is officially considered fully-fledged staff – that being Alex Turner. He is still actively involved in music production, writing, recording and performing his own material.
He is very popular both among his fans and outside of the music industry, having made several appearances in movies and TV shows. His acting career includes roles in films such as Captain America: Civil War and Avengers Infinity War, where he played the villainous character Thanos.
He had small parts in the movie Wonder Woman and television show Hannibal, too.
The band was formed in 2006 when Alex Turner, who goes by his first name only, wrote his own songs. He recruited two other musicians for their group, Jamie Cook (drums) and Matt Helders (bass).
Their debut album, I'm Having Fun Now, which included tracks like 'Teddy Bear', 'Why Don't You Do Something About It?' and '(Don't Write Your Story) A Life Of Regrets' received significant airplay on radio and music streaming services.
The band then went onto record and released another EP titled Settle Down and subsequently signed with Capitol Records. Their second studio effort, AM, was also critically acclaimed and featured the hit singles 'Rope'.
Released in May 2013, their third LP, Vicious, reached number one on both iTunes and Billboard's Rock Chart.
The band formed in 2006 when Alex Turner, Ian Cook, Jamie Smith, Matt Tong and Nick Valensi were all students at Sheffield University. After meeting through a music club, guitarist/vocalist Turner invited his friends to join him in creating their own sound.
As soon as they released their first album, people took notice of them. In May 2007, just three months after being introduced to each other, the band played its debut show at London’s Underworld.
The next day, NME gave the group its Breakthrough Award for Best New Band. Since then, the Arctic Monkeys have never stopped breaking down boundaries and achieving new milestones.
They quickly built an ardent fan base with songs like “I Wanna Know What Your Day Is Like,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Riot Wire.” All three cracked the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.
In April 2009, AMF (the Arctic Monkey Fans) voted for the song that would be included on the band’s second LP. With only one rule — it had to be over two minutes long — the fans chose “Underneath the Waves.” It became their third hit, reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning the band a Grammy for Best Track Of The Year.
