Recent developments for Emirati working visas have come to light, with reports surfacing earlier this week of some significant changes that will go into effect next month. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced major revisions to their work visa process, including changing what country you must live in while on a job.
Dubai is one of the most popular cities for expatriates looking to make money through employment. It’s also one of the easiest places to do so if you are already living there. This is due in part to its lax immigration laws, which don’t require too many documents other than your passport and proof of sufficient income.
But as of January 2020, employers in the UAE will be required to verify where workers are residing during business hours, and whether or not they have authorization to enter the country.
This new rule goes into effect at the beginning of March, when employers will need to check both those things before granting them a work permit. For individuals who are currently employed in the UAE but are looking to move forward with their career here, this could prove to be a deal breaker.
It can also be pretty expensive to find out if someone is authorized to travel outside of their home country, even if it’s just for a few days. Some agencies that help people get jobs often charge large fees up front for the service, making it difficult to afford otherwise.

The first is the Work and Travel (W-8) visa, also known as a Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa or Business Visitor (BV) visa. This requires only one week of work with pay under your name at an establishment within the United States or Canada.
After this time has elapsed, you may choose to return home or stay in the country until you find employment there. You would need to confirm your departure from the workplace and intention to leave before being granted clearance to depart.
This type of visa cannot be extended beyond its initial 90 day validity period.
