As we all know, rapper/songwriter Drake has been in the music business for quite some time now! He’s got his own album coming out next year, he just released an EP last month, and aside from being extremely successful, he is also very well known.
Drake didn’t become famous overnight though- he took several steps to get there. Starting with posting songs online and developing his fan base through social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat, he made sure he was leaving a good taste behind.
He worked hard to gain attention by putting in effort into appearing active outside of music and promoting himself. This includes sharing fun pictures and videos on social media, responding to comments and messages, etc.
And while most people may not recognize him as a musician yet, he makes it clear that he wants everyone to think of him as one eventually. By writing lyrics about how much he loves music and wanting others to feel the same way, he sets up his career path.
This article will talk more about some of the ways he built his brand and what you can learn from them. It will include everything from talking about his life off stage to doing things that make him popular.
As we know, Drake took hip hop to new heights with his lyrics and style. He’s been doing it for years now! But before he was talking about relationships and money, he was dropping songs about how much of one you have or don’t have.
His first big song is called “Money Make Me Dance” where he raps about wanting more money. The second verse contains the famous line “I got my dreams in a jar, I keep 'em in a safe place, but they're still there”.
This lyric inspired many artists to add their own version of this line. Most notably are Jay-Z's "My Dream Is To Be Like Tony Stark" and Kanye West's "Dreams Are A River". Both use the word river instead of dream and refer to themselves as billionaires instead of Tony Stark.
Drake himself has said that his favorite artist who uses the same lyrics as him is Nas.
In 1988, at the age of 19, Sean Combs founded Bad Boy Records as an outlet for himself to release music. He designed his logo in front of a black background with white text saying “Bad Boy” across the top and his first name under it.
He released two songs he wrote and produced himself — one was called “My Way” which is now considered a classic song. The other was titled “Baby I Love You” and featured rapper LL Cool J.
His next project was launching his very own radio station where people could hear his music! He named this new show Power 106 because it was originally broadcasted from USC Trojan football games and that area of Los Angeles is known as the power house.
Since then, he has continued to launch more projects such as recording artists, fashion lines, and TV shows.
After leaving Miami Valley High School in Dayton, Ohio with no professional career prospects, Sean Combs started his music business empire by founding Bad Boy Records with his cousin Luther Campbell. He then branched off into fashion by starting World-Wide Wes/WWW Clothing Company and later founded The Crop Club, a tanning company he still owns to this day.
But it was his work as an artist that would make him famous! Starting out at the age of 19 with his first album What’s My Name?, he quickly became one of the top rappers of his time thanks to songs like “Bad Girl” and “In Da Noodz.”
He eventually left the label he cofounded (and lost money doing so) to start his own imprint under Def Jam Recordings, which is now known as BGR Music. Since then, he has released over 15 solo albums and collaborated with some of hip hop’s biggest names including Jay Z, Drake, Rihanna, Kanye West, and more!
He’s also launched his very own clothing line called Sean John, and starred in several hit movies such as The Reclusive Rich Guy Who Outlives Everyone Else In Town and This Is Us, a show about the parents of Jack Pearson, played by Mandy Moore.
What made P Diddy become popular is not only his incredible talent as a rapper but also his impressive track record as an entrepreneur.
After moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor, Sean “Diddy” Combs found himself struggling to make ends meet. With no money for food or rent, he had to find creative ways to survive. He began selling T-shirts and hats outside local movie theaters to help pay his bills.
Combs eventually took this business idea one step further and founded his own line of clothing under his company, Sean Combs Clothing. Since then, his fashion collection has grown into one of the most prominent lines in the industry.
His success as a businessman is what allowed him to transition into being a celebrity entrepreneur. Now, he not only designs his own clothes, but also sponsors other brands and products while using his social media influence to promote them.
He even launched his very own TV show that focuses on his personal life and career tips! All of these things are proof of his successful business acumen.
In 2007, after his music career took off, rapper P Diddy purchased a 6-bedroom house in an affluent area of Miami, Florida. He paid $12 million for it!
He renovated and customized the home to fit his style and personality. It features a state-of-the art recording studio with enough room for a stage set up. The kitchen is designed like a restaurant with separate bar areas and lots of space to cook or drink.
It’s also got a large dining table that can seat twelve people. There are six bedrooms and five bathrooms, making this house plenty big enough for all your r&b needs.
Diddy didn’t live in this house alone though. According to reports, he hosted many parties here and invited A-list celebrities such as Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more.
These guests would come and go but most stayed for several days at a time. Some even spent the night and left before morning. This was back when celebrities still gave out their business cards and used theirs as a way to connect with other professionals.
This wasn’t the only source of exposure they received while staying here either. Having a party doesn’t always mean you're just hanging out with friends - being famous means there's always someone watching you work.
In 1988, at the age of 19 years old, Sean Combs founded his own label- Bad Boy Records. He designed his company to take over music industries by storm with hard work and determined ambition.
He launched his career as an artist himself, producing songs for other artists including Mariah Carey, The Notorious B.I.G., Lil’ Kim, Beyoncé and more.
As his success grew, he transitioned into acting, starring in hit films such as The Washroom, Wild Card and Baby On Board.
In addition to his artistic achievements, he has also made significant contributions off the field through philanthropy and activism.
He is actively involved in various charities and projects that help others, from raising money for underprivileged children to advocating for social justice causes like LGBTQ rights and anti-racism initiatives.
His efforts have earned him many accolades and honors, making him one of the most well-known people in the world.
He is currently ranked number 43 on Forbes‘ list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful People.
As mentioned earlier, music is one of the main foundations to celebrity status. People always want to know who these artists are, what they listen to, and how they manage their career. With all this attention, people tend to admire or even feel inspired by their lifestyle and/or work ethic.
So when an artist comes out with a new album, song, or video, there’s very often a discussion about whether or not you should buy it!
And while some may think that buying their new material is a way to show them support, many more will criticize it as excessive spending.
Some might say that they would rather that individual don’t be able to afford such goods because then they wouldn’t have anyone to look up to- which is definitely not a good thing in our society.
However, we can’t help but admire someone for going beyond their budget and supporting their artistic dreams.
In May of 2004, Sean Combs gave birth to his first child with fiancée Camille O’Hara. They named her Royal heiress Iyanla Montgomery Mathers V. The couple welcomed their daughter just over one year later in June of 2005.
Combs has always been an engaged businessman, but having a family took him by surprise. “I didn’t know if I was ready,” he told Essence magazine back in 2008. “But once you do it, you realize how important it is. It’s like finding out what your life purpose is — being a parent really defines who you are as a person.”
He continued, saying that becoming a dad helped bring closure to his own childhood issues. “As a kid, my parents weren’t around very much, so I never learned how to ask for help,” he said. “Now that I have kids, I make sure they feel comfortable coming to me with anything.”
Not only does having children change your life physically, but it also changes your mental state. Noticing all of the new responsibilities can be stressful at times, but eventually you learn to enjoy spending time with them.
Sean and his wife work hard when they're together, which makes leaving time alone difficult. When they are away from each other, however, there's no way she'll let him go.
