As mentioned before, JK Rowling is one of the most well-known authors of our time! She’s been writing since she was twelve years old, creating some of today’s biggest successful series such as The Harry Potter books or The New York Times bestseller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Her career really took off when she published her first book for young adults, The Sorcerer's Stone in 1997. Since then, she has written over twenty five novels and novellas that have collectively sold more than 500 million copies worldwide making her one of the bestselling writers ever!
She even received an honorary degree from Harvard University in 2015.
In 1995, just before her 30th birthday, English teacher and writer Joanne Krowen published her first novel, The House On Turf Road. Since then she has written over 15 novels, including the New York Times best-seller series for young readers The Percy Jackson Series (The Lightning Thief, The Sea God’s Son) as well as more recent works such as Fangs of Steel, Magic Beyond Words, and Never Ever After.
Her work has been hailed by both critics and fans alike, with Publishers Weekly naming one of her books an “essential read” in their list of Best Books For Kids And Teens Who Love Fantasy. She was also nominated for both the British Book Award and Horn Book Magazine's Children's Literature Awards for outstanding writing.
She currently lives in England where she spends her time reading, writing, and thinking about how to keep herself awake. When not doing so either of these, you can find her watching TV or listening to music.
As we mentioned before, Harry Potter is one of the most well-known book series in literary history. The books have been translated into more than 50 languages and are still selling strong over 20 years later.
Before she was famous for writing children’s fiction, JK Rowling made her professional debut as an editor with the adult imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing.
In this capacity, she worked on nonfiction projects such as biographies and how to guides. However, it was her work on the bestseller Life Lessons from Kids that really set her apart.
This self-help guide encourages readers to apply lessons they learn from kids to their own lives. This includes learning about friendship, teamwork, and respect.
Since its release in late 2011, the book has sold nearly 2 million copies worldwide and has inspired many others to write motivational essays.
After graduating with honors from Harvard, where she studied English literature, Jo spent two years teaching at a private school in England before deciding to pursue writing as a career. In 1989, she published her first novel under the pen name J.K. Rowling.
It was an immediate success. The New York Times called it “spellbinding” and described the plot as being similar to that of Gone With the Wind.
Rowling later revealed that she wrote the story while listening to music. She said she would write scenes while singing along to songs like “I Will Never Let You Out Of My Life” by Whitney Houston and “Material Girl” by Madonna.
Her second book, The Casual Vacancy, also received rave reviews. It is now considered one of the best young adult novels ever written.
As mentioned before, Harry Potter is one of the greatest book series of all time. What made it so successful was its writing, characters, and story-telling. But beyond that, how did author J K Rowling get such attention?
She invested in media to promote her books. She created blogs, wrote guest posts, tweeted about her books, and even started her own podcast! All these strategies helped spread word about her work and she’s paid off with lots of money and fame.
And now you can join her as an honorary wizard! You just have to invest in your craft and grow your online presence.
After she left Hogwarts, J.K. Rowling made her way as an author by writing about various topics, including how to save yourself when you’re drowning. She wrote The Life of Harry Potter in 2010 as a way to emphasize that life after high school is just like living your normal everyday life — only you’ve got more going on!
She then started a non-profit organization called Students Helping Homeless People (SHP) in 2011 with the goal of collecting new clothes and shoes for homeless people.
Her inspiration? A friend who had volunteered at the local homeless shelter before SHP was founded. Many students feel helpless because they want to help others but don’t know where to start, she said. By creating an organized event, people are able to contribute their time and resources without feeling overwhelmed.
Since its launch, SHP has gathered over 2 million clothing items and distributed them to nearly 500 charities across America. It also sent 474,000 footwear packages to agencies throughout Europe and Canada.
In total, SHP spent around $1.5million on helping those in need.
After she finished her degree in English, Rowling took time off to focus on raising a family. But when she decided it was time to return to writing, she had little experience with which material to start with.
She needed a premise that would keep her motivated to write for an extended period of time, so she made up an anecdote about how she once went shopping after buying the wrong gift and got into an argument with the seller over the price.
Her story involved two people, one who wanted to steal something from the other, and how this caused a dramatic conclusion. She called this “the basic plot idea” of The Gobstones, the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
After editing this down, rewriting it, and adding more detail, she published her first book in June 2000. Since then, she has written 13 novels and several novellas. Her books have sold over 300 million copies worldwide, making her one of the best-selling writers of all time.
As we know, Harry Potter is more than just a book series; it’s a culture that has inspired many different types of books and stories. Many people are influenced by the characters in the series and what they stand for.
One such person was writer Joanne Krowl, who wrote her first manuscript right after she had her son.
Her story is pretty incredible!
Krowl started writing when her son was around five years old and he would ask questions about dragons every night. She would tell him “no, those aren’t real” but he wouldn’t believe her. He would keep asking until she gave in and said, “well then how do you think dragons breathe fire?”
He laughed so she told him that when dragons breathed, they shook like a dog and their mouths opened wide. This made them able to take bigger breaths and use their breath better, which helped them be healthier.
After his bedtime story, Krowl would write down all these theories as possible answers to why dragons don’t exist and what tricks they could learn to emulate dragon breathing.
It took her six months to write her first draft but now she publishes novels under the pen name J.K. Rowling.
As mentioned earlier, before she was famous for writing best-selling novels, J.K. Rowling made her name as an author of young adult fiction. She is most well known for creating the Harry Potter series.
The first book in this series, titled “Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published back in 1997. Since then, it has gone on to become one of the biggest movie franchises ever!
Not only that, but it also gave rise to many other successful books in the Young Adult genre. These include stories about other fictional characters who go through similar experiences as Harry does in the Harry Potter series.
Rowling now owns several large business properties, including Starbucks and Burger King. In fact, she purchased enough stock at both companies to make them majority owners.
She also invested in some startups, such as Evernote and Kakao Talk. This isn’t too surprising, because she already owned a company called Evernote prior to investing in Kakao Talk.
Overall, by the time she finished running all of these businesses, she had amassed quite the net worth. According to Forbes, she earned around $1 billion back in 2018. That makes her one of the richest people in the world.
